Alvin Ekikiela Chong Sr., 83, of Waimea, Hawaii, a retired Hawaii County Police Department captain, co-owner of the former Safeguard Security Services, and an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, died at home. He was born in Waimea. He is survived by wife Lorraine "Lani" Olsen-Chong; sons Alvin Jr., Robson, Curtis, David and Quintin; daughter Emrie Moniz; stepson Ikaika Olsen; stepdaughters Shannon Berdon, Eleu Wills, Monica Hurley and Kalae Kawamura; sisters Daisy Ikeuchi, Irene Kaneo, Winona Tanaka, Roseline Ho and Evelyn Martin; 55 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 8 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 65 Kapiolani Road, Waimea. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Casual attire.
