FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

GEORGE IGE
GEORGE IGEGEORGE IGE George Ige, age 91, passed away on October 14 in California. His family ran the 1st fruit stand in upper Maunawili in the thirties and forties from the old Pali road. He graduated from Mid Pacific Institute, then served in the US Army as a Japanese language interpreter in Japan. Upon his discharge, he entered the University of Southern California and graduated specializing in the field of education. He remained in education for most of the remainder of his life. He later served for two terms as mayor and 2 terms as a city councilman and one term as treasurer for the city of Monterey Park, a suburb of Los Angeles. The Senate of the State of Hawaii passed resolution #170 on 3-15-73 extending congratulations and warmest aloha to him on being elected mayor. He is survived by sons, Michael and Leonard, daughter Karen and 6 grandchildren. Services were held in West Covina, California on November 9th.
