GARY OWEN GALIHER
Gary Owen Galiher, 70, of Honolulu, died November 15, 2016 in Mana'e of Moloka'i. Gary was born on March 29, 1946 in Montebello, California to Clifford Owen and Virginia Valentine Galiher. Gary graduated from UCLA in 1968, and moved to Hawaii shortly after, where he worked an array of jobs, including diving for black coral and teaching special education at Haleiwa Elementary School. In 1977, he graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law at UH Manoa. After practicing as an associate at a private firm, Gary opened his own law office in 1978, now known as Galiher DeRobertis Waxman, primarily for representing asbestos victims. He passionately advocated on the behalf of his clients throughout his lifetime. In September 2007, Gary was awarded as the William S. Richardson School of Law's Outstanding Alumnus. The University of Hawai'i Alumni Association awarded Gary as a Distinguished Alumni in 2011. For numerous years, including 2016, Gary O. Galiher was recognized as one of Hawaii's Best Lawyers in the field of mass tort litigation/class actions-plaintiffs. Gary enjoyed surfing, water sports, skiing, and snowboarding. His passion, hard work, trial skills, and love for helping others exemplified the life he lived. Gary is survived by his children: Sarah Jean Galiher, 37, Jess Galiher, 33, Cate da Cruz, 32, Mika Virginia Galiher, 27, Mari Toshiko Galiher, 24; and grandson: Davi da Cruz, 6. Celebration of life will be on Monday, December 5th, 2016 at Oahu Country Club, aloha attire welcome. Visitation is at 10:00AM and service to begin at 11:00AM.
