George Albert Loomis
George Albert Loomis passed away on January 28, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 23, 1926. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Hogg Loomis, and three children, Sharon Loomis Botkin (Richard Botkin), Sheila H. Loomis and G.Brian Loomis (Matt Torres) and three grandchildren, S. Andrew Botkin, Evan Botkin and Matthew Loomis. George and Joanne have been married for 65 years. George graduated from Punahou High School in 1944. He enjoyed swimming and surfing in his high school years and had the nickname "Slim." He was in the Army at the end of World War II from 1944-1945 and was stationed in Saipan. He graduated from University of Denver in 1951 with a business degree. George went on to work for Bishop Estate in the Appraisal Division and became the manager of the division. He maintained a great interest in real estate and had his broker's license. He also was active as an independent appraiser. He enjoyed Toastmasters and was the president of the Honolulu chapter. George valued giving back to the community and was active in the following groups: president on the board of trustees at Central Union Church; president of the Punahou Alumni Association; on the board for Habitat for Humanity and president of the Waialae Golf Course Community Association. George enjoyed playing volleyball in his young married life. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed traveling with Joanne. Services will be held at Central Union Church on February 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m.. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, any donations made in George's memory may be made to: Central Union Church or Punahou School.
