Gilbert Joseph Leong
Gilbert Joseph LeongGilbert J. Leong, 88, died peacefully at home on January 19, 2017. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Quan Yau and Chun Ngit Leong. As a youngster, he loved baseball and with a buddy organized a youth baseball league in his Bingham Tract neighborhood. Gil graduated in 1946 from St. Louis High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaii. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he married Sylvia Lee and they moved to Boulder, Colorado where Gil would earn his master's degree in accounting from the University of Colorado. He was a retired CPA and founder of Gilbert J. Leong and Gregory H. Lee, CPAs. Gil loved tennis, golf, the ocean, skiing, traveling with Sylvia and close friends, art, music, socializing with friends and clients, driving convertibles and spending time with his grandchildren. He and Sylvia were long time season ticket holders for UH football, the Honolulu Symphony, Hawaii Opera Theatre and Diamond Head Theatre. Survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia, sons Scott (Peggy), Kimo, and Kurt (Juday) Leong, daughters Susu Markham (Greg) and Mary Leong Saunders, and sister Evelyn Leong, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 148 Makawao Street, Kailua. Service at 10:00. Lunch to follow.
