Nancy Marie Hai Sook (Lee) Nulsen, 64, formerly of Waipahu, passed away on December 11, 2016 in Mt. Vernon, IL. She was born in 1952 in Honolulu. Nancy is survived by her mother, Cleophas Kubota; 4 daughters, Candice Nulsen, Jennie Mayer, Sydney Nulsen and Alexis Nulsen; 2 grandchildren; 4 siblings, Gilbert Lee, Helen Lanford, Rosalie Probasco, and Elizabeth Lee; cousins, nephews, nieces, and loving partner, Charles Steckenrider. Nancy graduated in 1970 from Waipahu H.S. She was the sole founder of a very successful glass & glazing contracting business for 10 years in St. Louis, Missouri. Most recently, Nancy worked as an ER Unit Secretary and Certified Nursing Assistant at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She also taught English at Rend Lake College and was a substitute teacher at the local middle schools. She completed her Bachelor and Master's degrees at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville while working full time and was passionate about education and helping others. Funeral cremation services were held in Mt. Vernon on Dec. 16th, 2016 with many of her friends, family and co-workers in attendance. She will be coming home to rest in peace in Honolulu at a private memorial later this year.
