ANTJE R M MUNENO
Born October 14, 1926 in Maastricht, Netherlands, Antje Roelfina Maria Bouckaert (Ann) passed away in Honolulu on February 6, 2017. She is already greatly missed! From enduring the Nazi Occupation of her home town during her teen years to her passing in Hawaii, Ann faced life's joys and challenges with strength and courage. She married her Kauai-born husband James in Maastricht in 1949. They moved to London, England where their first child was born. A subsequent move to New York City saw the birth of 5 more children. During this time Ann became a naturalized US citizen. The family moved to Hawaii in 1959 where 2 more children were born. In addition to the demands of parenting such a large brood, Ann worked as a real estate agent for a short while, then for AMFAC, followed by accounting careers at Maui Divers and HonBlue. She also served on the boards of the Hawaii Kai Library, Hawaii Central Credit Union and Queen Emma Gardens. Ann had many talents. She spoke 4 languages, played the piano, enjoyed reading, swimming, dancing, needlework and painting. Ann is survived by her husband James T Muneno, daughters Pat Muneno, Ann Muneno, Chiyo Churchill (Charles), Kathy Muneno Thompson (Nainoa); sons Jim Muneno (Charlene), Henry Muneno (Lynn), William Muneno (Cheryl), 16 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren, her brother Harm Bouckaert and several nieces and nephews. Funeral mass 10:00 am Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Star of the Sea church, 4470 Aliikoa St, Honolulu, followed by visitation. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hawaii State Library: Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at 402 Kapahulu Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815, in Ann's name, would be greatly appreciated.
