JEAN STAPLETON COLEMAN
JEAN STAPLETON COLEMANJean Stapleton Coleman, of Makawao, formerly of Honolulu, died Dec. 22, 2016, in Kahului. She was 91. Jean was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., to Charles and Roselind Stapleton. She lived mostly in Hawaii, but loved to travel, including spending eight years in Japan, where she married and had three of her four children. She also spent three years, starting in 1978, circling the globe on her own; and five years, while in her 60s, with the U.S. Foreign Service in Holland and Tunisia. In Hawaii and Florida in the 1960s, Jean was active in the Republican Party. In the 1970s, she was publisher of a tourism magazine, president of the Hawaii Advertising Federation and, in 1978, Hawaii Advertising Woman of the Year. Known and respected worldwide for her astrology skills, Jean was a confidant, mentor and role model to family and friends, loved and admired for her wisdom and beautiful, ageless spirit. Her favorite pastimes included painting and gardening. Jean is survived by her children Mark, Lori, Paul and Kevin; hanai daughter Juliet Makaila Wilkinson; grandchildren Jeremy, Mele, Alisha, Amber and Kawika; six nieces and a nephew.
