FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

BETTY EILEEN SLAUGHTER
BETTY EILEEN SLAUGHTER94, passed away peacefully February 13, 2017, in Aiea, Hawaii, in the home she had lived in for 70 years. She was born in Manila, Philippines while her father, Thomas Van Cleave, was briefly stationed there with her mother, Eileen. Betty, along with her sister Margaret, grew up in Honolulu and then Lualualei. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940 and attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She met her husband Guy, a young navy Ensign, while working at the Pearl Harbor Communications Office during World War II. They were married 73 years until his passing last May. Betty was a loving mother and wife and a surrogate mother to neighborhood children. She was a life long avid reader, gardener, and volunteer, many years recently with the Halawa Xeriscape Garden. She is survived by her son Thomas of Poulsbo, Washington, her daughters Sydney (Mark) Elliott of Eugene, Oregon and Leslie (Mike) Magno of Roy, Washington, and four grand- children and four great-grand- children. She will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl). Memorial Gathering Saturday March 4, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the Slaughter family home on Aiea Heights. No flowers or monetary offerings, please.
