Rosalie Moi Lee Ho Hong
Rosalie Moi Lee Ho Hong passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2017. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 6, 1912, she reached the golden age of 104. She was the youngest of 13 children, attended Chung Shan Chinese Language School and graduated from McKinley High School class of 1931. She helped her father in his grocery store and property rental businesses along Alapai and Beretania streets. Moi Lee became a housewife, community volunteer, educator, avid Kahala Mall walker, and United Chinese Society "Model Mother of the Year" in 2004. She taught at Island Paradise School and Sacred Hearts Academy. A loving wife, mother, Popo, sister, aunty, and friend, Moi Lee inspired 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The Hong Family was blessed to have had her in their lives for so many golden years. She was committed to bringing the family together and passing on Chinese traditions to the next generations. With a vibrant outgoing personality, Moi Lee was a positive role model who counted her blessings with a grateful heart. She continued to have and make new friends of all ages as people gravitated to her because of her zest for life. Interested in their lives, Moi Lee was also interesting to listen to with her many stories. Friends and people she met in the community were drawn to her and enjoyed being in her positive presence, many also hoping to absorb the magic secret of her healthy longevity and outlook on life. A gracious centenarian, Moi Lee was an inspiration to many. Her indomitable spirit will continue as we keep her in our hearts. In Heaven, Moi Lee joins her dear late husband, Dr. Gilbert Hong, to whom she was married for 65 years. Her beloved sons Stanley (Karen) and Michael (Geriann) and son-in-law Alex Leong (Tina). She is survived by daughters Laurie (Alfred) Wong, Tina Leong and son Stephen. Our family is grateful for the many relatives, friends and caregivers who extended their love and kindness in so many ways that contributed to her well-being and full life. Private services were held April 21, 2017.
