FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ALBERT SAU CHEONG CHONG
ALBERT SAU CHEONG CHONGALBERT SAU CHEONG CHONG, 90, OF NUUANU, HAWAII PASSED AWAY ON APRIL 27, 2017. AL WAS BORN IN HONOLULU ON DECEMBER 17, 1926 AND LIVED MOST OF HIS LIFE IN NUUANU VALLEY. UP UNTIL HIS PASSING, HE WAS STILL WORKING FULL TIME AT THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND LIGHTING DESIGN FIRM HE FOUNDED IN 1966, FULLY CAPABLE AND SHARP AS THEY COME. PRIOR TO STARTING HIS OWN CONSULTING FIRM, ALBERT CHONG ASSOCIATES, HE WORKED FOR THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, PARK ASSOCIATES AND THE FAA. PRIOR TO STARTING HIS CAREER, HE ATTENDED SAINT LOUIS SCHOOL, OF WHICH HE WAS A LONG TIME BOARD OF TRUSTEE MEMBER AND A MEMBER OF SLS GALLERY OF DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVERS, AND THEN WENT ON TO UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON TO COMPLETE HIS UNDERGRADUATE WORK IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. AL SERVED ONE DUTY IN THE ARMY AT THE END OF WWII. AL ALSO GAVE MUCH OF HIS TIME TO THE CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF HONOLULU, UH KOA ANUENUE (AVIDLY ATTENDED MANY UH HOME GAMES UNTIL LAST YEAR) AND THE ILLUMINATING ENGINEERING SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA AS VICE PRESIDENT OF REGIONAL ACTIVITIES (RECIPIENT OF A NATIONAL DISTINGUISH SERVICE AWARD). AS PART OF HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE IESNA, AL CO-AUTHORED NATIONAL LIGHTING STANDARDS AND WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS OWN ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGN. UP UNTIL HIS PASSING, HE WAS STILL ACTIVE IN ATTENDING DIAMOND HEAD THEATRE AND THE OPERA IN HIS LEISURE TIME. HE IS WIDOWER OF THE LATE BETTY LEE AND IS SURVIVED BY TWO SISTERS, CATHERINE AND ELIZABETH; SONS STEPHEN (SANDRA), MICHAEL (KAREN), RICK (SHARON); DAUGHTER SHARON; GRANDCHILDREN KRISTEN, CHRIS, JASON, TAYLOR, LAUREN, KALEN AND KELLY; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN KAYLA, MARLEY, DYLAN AND CLAIRE. VISITATION TUESDAY MAY 9, 4PM AND MASS AT 5:30PM AT SAINT LOUIS SCHOOL MYSTICAL ROSE ORATORY. BURIAL SERVICES WILL BE PRIVATE.
