FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Ethel Emiko Nakao
Ethel Emiko Nakao passed away peacefully at home March 23, 2017. Ethel was born in Honolulu on September 24, 1925 to Kenichi and Yaeno Nakamura, the third of 10 children. A McKinley High School alumna, Ethel graduated from Cannons School of Business, worked at the Fort Shafter PX and, after more than 40 years with Sears Roebuck and Co. Credit Department, retired in 1991. Beloved Aunty Ethel was everyone's favorite baker and chef, and will be remembered always for her many hand-knitted luggage pompoms, kitchen towels and baby blankets she lovingly made and widely shared. She will be remembered for her genuine generosity and kindness by all who were so fortunate to have known her. She is survived by son Melvin S. (Joy) Nakao, daughter Colette (Richard M.) Sakoda, grand- daughters Chelsey Nakao Koga, Jenna Nakao, Marissa Sakoda, and great-granddaughter Kiana Koga. She is also survived by sisters Kay Kuwada, Beatrice Nakamura, Hazel Murakami, Florence Yanase, Ellen Parkins, May (Lester) Horibe, sister-in-law Doris Nakamura, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a great- grandniece. Ethel is preceded in death by husband James Sadamu Nakao. She is also preceded in death by her late brothers, Ichiro, Teruto and Stanley Nakamura. Private services held.
