Douglas Akin
Douglas Akin Douglas Allan Akin passed away at his Hillsboro, Oregon home April 18, 2017. Doug was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on March 20, 1943 to Jean Myers and Burgess John Akin. Doug moved to California at age 19, where he attended San Francisco State and John F Kennedy Law School. He practiced insurance defense law in California before moving to Hawaii in 1993. He worked as VP of claims with HIG and relocated to Hillsboro, OR upon his retirement in 2008. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, intellect and generosity by all who have known him. He is survived by wife, Marina Diaz, daughter Rebecca Akin (Eric) Ottaviano, grand- children Emmanuelle and Isaac of Rouen, France, stepdaughter Liana Mason (Brad) Reff and granddaughter Sadie of Honolulu. He is also survived by sister Cynthia Hope Akin (Larry) Tinsley of Upland, California, brothers Arnold Kirk (Paula) Akin of Sacramento, California and Christopher John (Leslee) Akin of Stockton, California, niece Elizabeth Jung Ah Tinsley, nephew Kyle Akin and grand- niece Sarah Hope Tinsley. A memorial/Celebration of Life service will be held May 22, 2017, 12:45 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Honolulu. We ask that in lieu of flowers; please donate to a charity of your choice in Doug's name.
