Reverend Rudolph “Rudy” Atherton Duncan
The Reverend Rudolph "Rudy" Atherton Duncan, age 91 died on Monday evening August 14, 2017 with his family by his side. He was a 1943 graduate of Punahou School, the University of California, Berkeley (1949) and a graduate of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1968. Rudy served as Vicar at St. Mary's Church in McCully, Oahu (1968-1970), then its Rector (1970-1979). He was an Assistant Priest at St. Peter's (1979-1980) and the Treasurer for the Diocese of Hawaii (1979-1991), upon his retirement from active priesthood in 1991. Prior to his service with the Episcopal Church of Hawaii, he was employed as an accountant with American President Lines & also with Amfac's business operations at Pu'unene Sugar Mill on Maui & Hawaiian Canneries on Kauai (1951-1964) Rudy was also a high ranking member of the Shriner's Masonic Temple in Honolulu, serving as Potentate in 1992. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kathleen Ululani (Hopkins) Duncan, his children Lynn (Scot) Kennedy, Stan (Patricia) Duncan, Debbie (Joseph) Turgeon, his grandchildren, Keana (Adam) Dreher, Koa (Kahana) Duncan, James Duncan, Noelani (Brant) Elliott, Joe (Taylor) Turgeon and his great grandchildren, Duke Dreher, Duncan Dreher, Waimeli Duncan, Melia Elliott, Kiya Elliott, Joe Turgeon & Maclaine Turgeon. Celebration of Life services for Father Rudy Duncan will be held at St. John's by the Sea Church in Kahalu'u, Oahu on September 9, 2017. Visitation at 9:30 am, Services will commence at 11:00 am. Private Burial services will take place at a later date.
