Kazuo Teruya
On August 24, 2017, Kazuo, eldest son of Kizo and Kuse Teruya quietly passed away surrounded by books and family photos; encircled by his family. It was his 94th birthday. Kazuo, born in Kekaha Kauai, left home at 14 to live on his own and attend Hawaiian Mission Academy. After high school he served in Italy as an army tech sergeant with the 88th Division in WWII. Kazuo graduated from La Sierra College, in California in 1952 and then went on to get his medical degree from Loma Linda University. He returned to Oahu in 1962 and after 41 years of group and private practice, working with Queen's Hospital, the John Burns Medical School, introducing cochlear implants to Hawaii and being on numerous committees, he retired at 80, in 2003. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church, a gentle, kind and generous man, with a quick mind and an eye for detail; an innovator. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife Rose, daughters Sharon, LeAnne (Ray), Beverly (Kelly) and 4 grandchildren; his brothers Keiji (Pat), Kisei, Kishiro (Bernice), Daniel and sisters Yoshiko Chang, Anna Arakaki, Amy Sanada and many nephews and nieces. Services will be held at the Kaneohe SDA Church on 9/17/17. Viewing at 9:30 am and service at 10:30 am.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
