Retired Commander Charles William Scharff passed away August 16, 2017. He retired from the United States Coast Guard in 1964 after 22 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and participated in multiple Allied invasions of North Africa and southern Europe. He was a Mason of the 32nd degree with the Honolulu Chapter. He was born in Eastport on Long Island, New York on October 7, 1917. He is survived by his three sons and their wives: Chuck Scharff Jr. and Lin, Alan Scharff and Linda Lee, Eric Scharff and Patty, five Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren. A celebration of his life and an internment ceremony will be held in private on Oct. 6th. Donations in his honor should be given to the American Cancer Society of Hawaii in his name.
