Anna Derby BlackwellAugust 12, 1932 October 18, 2016 Mother, Writer, Musician, Volunteer, Friend One year ago, Hawai'i lost a loving and devoted daughter, one of those born in the generation that saw the islands transition from the Territorial period, into Statehood and beyond. Anna Derby (Bond, Howe) Blackwell died peacefully at Queen's Hospital on Tuesday October 18, 2016. Anna Charlotte Kalaninuiaiamaumau Derby was born in Kapi'olani Hospital on August 12, 1932 in Honolulu, the oldest of four children born to Stephen and Dora (Cooke) Derby of Makiki Heights. A proud descendant of three missionary families, Anna grew up hearing stories of the kingdom period from those who had lived through it, and throughout her own life she endeavored to pass those stories on to everyone she knew. She touched many, many lives in so many places and in so many ways, with humor, style and unconditional love -- we should count ourselves lucky to ever see her like again in one lifetime. Anna is survived by her siblings Philander C. Derby and his wife, GeorgeAnne; Martha D McDaniel, John M Derby and his wife, Lyn; her five children, Caroline Bond Davis, Susan (Suzi) Bond, Boyd Davis Bond and his wife, Becky, Sarah (Sally) Bond, and Elizabeth (Betsy) Bond Deniston, and her husband Larry; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom collectively were the center of her life. Anna's ohana hosted a celebration of her life at Saint Clements' Episcopal Church in Makiki on Saturday November 5, 2016. Anna is gone in the physical sense but lives on within everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. A hui hou, until we meet again.
