Roy Nobuji Niimi MD, 78. Born April 21, 1939. Died October 16, 2017, with his loving wife of 54 years, Oleta, and his four children by his side. He died in Honolulu, Hawaii. Roy was a pediatric doctor with a MD from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. After his internship at St Francis Hospital in Honolulu, he served in the United States Army from 1967-70, first as a medical adviser and liaison with MILPHAP, Vietnam, with the Navy and also with the civilian Vietnamese doctors; and then at Fort Meade, Maryland. He did his pediatric residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center from 1970 to 1973 and was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1974 before joining the medical practice at Kalihi Medical Center from 1974 to 1997. He opened a private practice in Aiea from 1997 to 2014. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hawaii Medical Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics with the University of Hawaii School of Medicine; as chairman of the former Medical Management Committee of the Pacific Medical Administrative Group (PMAG); and as an Executive Committee member of both the Hawaii Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics and Kauikeolani Children's Hospital. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, two sisters, four children and six grandchildren; preceded in death by two sisters. Roy was a quiet and dignified man, who enjoyed tennis, golfing and fishing. He was respected by those who knew him and will be sorely missed. A private service was held.
