Masaru Nitta, 102, of Hilo, Hawaii and formerly of Kahului, Maui died Oct. 6 at his residence. Born in Paia, Maui, he was a retired machinist for Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Kahului Hongwanji Mission and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Anti-tank Company, 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). He is survived by daughters, Gail (Dexter) Shimabukuro of Hilo, Faye (Earl) Maruishi of Honolulu; sisters, Yoshino Okazaki of Honolulu, Mildred Tsukuda of Kauai, Mary Wakamatsu of Maui, Ethel Okabe of Waianae; brother, Ray (Doris) Nitta of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Gertrude Nitta of Honolulu; three grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews.
