Karel A. Ling
KAREL A. LING On the morning of Friday November 3rd, 2017, Karel A. Ling was called home to our Heavenly Father. Karel was born in Bend, Oregon on March 23rd, 1940. She met her husband Kenneth K. M. Ling (deceased), while attending Linfield College where she graduated with a BA Degree in Social Work. Both Karel and Kenneth used their Social Work degrees to help many challenged youths during their tenure at Palama Settlement. Karel went on to work at the Hawai'i Children's Justice Center, and Koolau Boy's Home (Hawaii Youth Correctional Center). Karel retired in 2002, from Marine Corps Base Hawaii - Communications Department. Karel loved her fellowship with Kailua Christian Church, her group bible studies with classes from Bible Institute of Hawaii, and being a member of the Windward YMCA Y's Men's Club, donating her time in helping others. Karel is survived by her three sons - Scot (Pauahi), Mark (Rennie), Lance (Shana), two daughters - Heidi Cummings (Walter Jr.) and Heather Bernal (Eric Sr.). She is also survived by her siblings - Karon Chapman, Robert Reed, Val Reed, and Rick Reed. Karel has 16 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Borthwick Mortuary, on Maunakea Street, on Friday December 1st, 2017. Visitation and viewing at 9:30am, Service at 10:30am with lunch to follow. Burial will be on the same day at Hawaiian Memorial Park at 2pm. Aloha Attire requested.
