FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

MARILYN KARIMA SMITH
MARILYN KARIMA SMITHTurkish delight and diamonds. Lipstick and a spotless house. Venti chai tea and belly dancing. Marilyn Karima Smith (nee Shacker) passed into the Hawaiian dawn on Saturday, November 25, 2017 with the grace, strength, and dignity she displayed all through her life. Born on June 23, 1940 in Hanna, Alberta, to Lebanese immigrants, Olga and Ralph Shacker, Marilyn's younger days led her to work in Calgary's oil patch. There she met Bill Smith and the twosome embarked on a rich and happy life together. From their homes in Calgary, Houston, and Honolulu, Marilyn and Bill worked and played--enjoying lunches and dinners, long walks, travel, and time spent with close friends. Known as "Min" to those near to her, she loved the warmth and lifestyle in Waikiki and became a fixture on the beach there. Marilyn proudly completed the Honolulu Marathon many times. She looked forward to Sunday nights at Dukes where she listened to Kapono and danced the evenings away with her best dance partner, Danny. Marilyn leaves behind her brother Morie, niece Susan and family, cousin Margie and family, cousin Robert, daughter Cheryl and family, stepdaughter Michelle and family, sister friends Pam and Judy, and many many more friends who will miss her positive energy and bubbly spirit. Red liquorice and Tiffany's. Steak and sunglasses. Bill must be happy to meet you again... "And now you're mine. Rest with your dream in my dream. Love and pain and work should all sleep, now. The night turns on its invisible wheels, And you are pure beside me as a sleeping amber." Pablo Neruda. We will miss you, Min ~ A Memorial Service will be held in April 2018.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
