Peter You Soon Kim
Better known as the Korean opera Irish tenor, Peter was peacefully called home by our Lord and Savior Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Castle Medical Center surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. He would have celebrated his 95th birthday comeDecember 26th. Your work here on earth is done Peter, it is time to sing with the angels in heaven and render all the beautiful songs you inspired us with here on earth. Peter is the oldest of six boys and has one older sister Beatrice and three brothers, Kenneth YS (Laura), Charles CS (Betty) and David HS (Nancy) Kim who are deceased. Surviving brothers are Herman OS (Ruth) and Robert PD Kim. They were born to Il Sung and Miriam Kim. Peter was born in Hawi, Kohala and then moved to Maui in the 1920s. All of the siblings were born and raised in poverty during the Great Depression. Being without a mother, who passed away at an early age, was very difficult for a 10-year-old boy. He helped take care of his brothers while his dad, the only breadwinner, went out to work. Peter served in World War II in the army as a translator/interpreter in the Pacific Ocean area and then in Tokyo during the postwar occupation years. He became a federal firefighter at Pearl Harbor where he rose to the rank of Supervisory Fire Inspector and then retired in 1977 at age 55 as Assistant Fire Chief. He always instilled in our sons and grandchildren, never to stop learning. Read, read and research. He then started Alii Fire Protection Company, Ltd, which is today a premier fire protection company with almost 40 years of operation. His son Jared, retired now, held the position of chief operating officer and now his grandchildren are taking over. Peter left a legacy for all to follow. Thank you my beloved husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. We will miss you but know you are with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will meet and be together one day. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Grace Yoshiko Matsumura Kim, his two sons, Jared Chung Soon (Mary) and Cyril Kung Soo Kim, two granddaughters Danika Leah Kim (Alex) Irurita and Jaynee Rae Kim (Michael San Jose), and great grandson Aiden Keitaro Irurita. Services will be at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Visitation: 4:30pm. Services: 5:30pm. Casual attire. No monetary gifts. Donations can be made in his honor to The Institute for Human Services (IHS).
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
