Kiichi Takahama, son of Junki & Matsu Takahama was born in Lahaina, Maui on April 23, 1918 and passed away on November 29, 2017 in Honolulu. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Natalie Natsuyo Sakamoto of Waikapu, Maui; sister Matsuyo Matsuura; brothers, Tamotsu & Atsushi (Chan) Takahama. Survived by brother Charlie Takahama; sisters, Nancy Kikuchi, Mitsue Fukuda and Mae Kaleikau; daughter Joan (Michael) Dang; grandchildren Lindsey (Amy), Marshall (Chayne) & Dr. Travis (Keiko) Dang; 3 great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews and Smokey his cat. He was a graduate of McKinley High School. He was a proud member of the Maui Police Department, where he started as a patrolman and retired with the rank of Inspector. He served on the island of Lanai, district of Lahaina & district of Wailuku, under Chief Abraham Iona. During his young years, he was active with the Lanai Gun & Rifle Club, Lahaina Methodist Church, bowling leagues & Okinawan Dance Club on Maui. He was also an enthusiastic & committed student of the Kaunoa Senior Centers' Monday ukulele class under the late Ruth Latham & present Penny Davis. Even though the drive from Kula, where he resided with Natalie was Jong, he hardly missed a class. The family wishes to thank his Kula neighbors Donna & Eric, Diane & Allen and the Awais for looking in on Kiichi & Natalie. Also Dr. Joey Kohatsu & staff, caregivers Cookie, Mary Lou, Sherry, Jeanette, Jenet & others who provided loving & compassionate care for Gramps. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017. Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. at Nakamura Mortuary. Private Inurnment. The family requests no koden.
