Dean E. Witt
92, of Honolulu, died on Dec. 16, 2017. Born in Los Angeles, Dean graduated from UCLA where he participated in Naval ROTC and played football, including a Rose Bowl appearance. Dean moved to Hawaii in the late 1940s and was soon deployed on the destroyer USS Fletcher during the Korean War. He became an instructor for the Naval Reserve, from which he retired as a Captain. He worked at Cooke Trust Co. then First Hawaiian Bank as a VP and Sr. Trust Officer. For many years, Dean was chief financial officer and on the vestry of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Kailua. He was a member of Rotary and the Oahu Country Club, served on the Board of Kapiolani Hospital and as Treasurer of his homeowners association. Dean will be remembered for his gentle, gracious soul, uncanny sense of humor, unwavering integrity, endless patience and the love he showed his large family and many friends. He is survived by the love of his life, Joanna, his wife of 30 years; children Dean Witt Jr. (Suzanne), Larry Cross (Romeo), Ellen Carlos. Eric Witt (Jeanne), Brian Cross (Brett), Katherine Witt, Linda Vollert (Bruce), Donna Kranhold (Paul), Keith Winston, Kathy Winston and Kevin Winston (Jeff), 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday January 13th at 11 AM at St Christopher's Church in Kailua, followed by a celebration of life at 21 Kalaka St in Kailua at 4 PM. A military burial at Punchbowl will be on Tuesday January 16th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Christopher's church in Kailua.
