Thelma Valentine
Thelma Valentine (nee Medeiros) of Honolulu passed away peacefully on the night of December 17, 2017. Born in Holualoa, Hawaii 92 years ago, she is survived by daughters Linda (William) Puleloa of Kawela, Molokai, and Loretta (Robert) Brackett of San Jose, California, son Gilbert Gary and daughter Lisa Valentine, both of Honolulu, Oahu. She is also survived by sister Dora Morales of Honolulu and brother Thomas Medeiros of Montclair, California. Retired after a long career at Andrade Resort Shops, Thelma settled into the role of clan matriarch, caring wife, loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren at her Kuliouou home on Oahu. Her daily pleasures included long walks, gardening, and cooking traditional Puerto Rican dishes. Preceding Thelma in death was her devoted husband of 68 years Gilbert Valentine who passed away on February 20, 2016. A lifelong salesperson, Gilbert began his profession at Easy Appliances before becoming an Equitable Life Insurance agent in early 1970. He ended his long sales career as a real estate agent for Horita Reality before finally retiring in mid 1980s. Preceding Gilbert in death were his half-brothers Joseph and Nicholas Akina, and his mother Lovena Fletcher Valentine. Gilbert was born on November 26, 1925 in Puunene, Maui. A private celebration of the lives of Gilbert and Thelma Valentine will be held at a later date at Diamond Head Memorial Park where they will be interred.
