Raymond "Papa" Peralta passed away on December 3, 2017 at the age of 92. Born on Maui to Pedro and Rosalina Peralta, Raymond moved to O'ahu and graduated from Farrington High School in 1945. Ray then enlisted in Army and was assigned to the 27th Infantry Division, Lightning Occupational Forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Raymond worked for Honolulu Rapid Transit as a bus driver from 1948-1969. In his free time, he organized sports activities for his co-workers. This was the start of the Oahu Softball League, which is now a member of the Amateur Softball Association National Foundation. Ray served as Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner for the Oahu League. In 1969, Ray began work at Hawaiian Telephone. He enjoyed installing telephones because it meant providing people with the tools to communicate with each other. Raymond became a member of the Kalakaua Lions Club in 1970. He and Marvis enjoyed attending Lions conventions in the United States, Europe and Asia. A faithful Lions member for 47 years, Raymond served a term as President and was honored by his club on January 18, 2018. In 1992, Raymond's retirement from Hawaiian Telephone allowed him to spend more time with the softball leagues. After 68 years with the softball community, his final "calls" as an umpire were in August 2017. Papa is survived by Marvis, his wife of 68 years; son Raynard "Skip" Peralta (Wynne); daughter Beryl Tyau (Jon); 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Raymond was the eldest of his sisters: Charlotte Carahasen, Adeline Olivares, Loretta Stewart, Mary Jane Jones; and his brothers: Frederico, Lawrence and Ernest Peralta. Raymond's celebration of life will be at Mililani Mortuary-Mauka Chapel on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Visitation: 830. Service: 930. Lunch: 1030. Burial at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific: 2pm. Aloha attire. No flowers.
