DAVID CHENG-TSO LIU
DAVID CHENG-TSO LIUDavid C. Liu born 7/5/1920 Tianjin, China. Passed away peacefully 12/22/2017. Earned BS in Civil Engineering in China. MS in 1949, then moved to UW Seattle studying soil mechanics, a relatively new field. Hired by Dames & Moore in 1951. Worked mostly in Mainland offices. In 1960, sent to open Honolulu office. Trent Dames selected him to lead their entry into Asia. Well known for his pioneering work in deep high rise building foundations in coral formations and his innovative solutions to difficult soft soil problems. Some of his projects in Honolulu include the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Illikai Hotel, Wailana, Marco Polo, Amfac Towers, Honolulu Federal Office Building, Salt Lake Crater, and Hawaii Kai land reclamations, and numerous projects throughout the Pacific Islands. After Dames & Moore, a consultant for Tetra Tech in Chicago. He is survived by May, his wife, sons Ed and Fred. Private service. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
