FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

DOUGLAS POUAHILANI HEEN
DOUGLAS POUAHILANI HEEN Sept. 14, 1919 - Jan. 11, 2018 Uncle Dougie passed away on Jan. 11, 2018 @ Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara, CA. His grand niece/nephew Cheryl & Tennyson Heen and their children Preston & Lindsey Heen by his side. He was the last child of Judge William H. Heen and Mercy K. Akau. He was preceded in death by his older siblings William H. Heen Jr. and Curtis N. Heen and their sister Muriel. He leaves behind nephew Gilmer Bayless, nieces Lahilahi Volpe & Kanani Cohune; Shellene Heen Gilman. Grand nieces & nephews; Tennyson & Cheryl Heen, Donilyn Heen, Curtis & Casey Heen, Darrin & Linda Cohune, Ross Cohune, Francis J. Cushingham III, cousin Walter and more. Douglas was born Sept. 14, 1919 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He left school (college) in 1940 and was inducted into the Army Nov. 1941. Doug was an MP during WWII @ Schofield Barracks. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 811th Military Police Company upon his honorable discharge in November of 1945. After the war Doug moved to the mainland, where he eventually met his lifetime Bill Scogland in 1950 in Sausalito, CA. Bill was a radar mechanic at March AFB near Riverdale in SoCal after the war. He and Bill Scogland were together for 66 years, before Bill passed away in April 29, 2017. Doug worked as a draftsman for the Southern Pacific Railroad (22yrs) in San Francisco, while Bill worked (27 yrs) at Metropolitan Life in the city. They first lived in Mill Valley (on Panoramic Hwy) before moving to the city (Post St./ 19th St., Berkeley (Hillegass Ave), Austin Creek in Cazadero and Santa Rosa, CA. Doug lived a long & rich life and enjoyed the simple pleasures. There's a lot of good memories left behind with those of us that were able to be part of his experience. He will be missed. Services will be held at the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) @ 10:30am March 2, 2018.
