1929 - 2018 Carol Holck, 88, of Kailua, with her Ohana by her side, went Home to our Lord and Savior on January 25th, 2018. She was born in Queens, New York on December 21st, 1929 and moved around the nation in a U.S. Navy family. Settling in California, she graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1948. While attending a Kani Ka Pila event put on by "Hawai'ian Transplants" at Hartnell College in Salinas, California, she met her future husband, Fred K. Holck of Kaka'ako, O'ahu. Fred was visiting his Hawai'ian friends while on leave from Special Operations training before being deployed to Korea in 1950. After his tour of combat, Fred returned home to Hawai'i Nei. Carol then sailed to Hawaii on the Matson Lurline in late 1951 and married her soldier in 1952. Carol touched countless people in her lifetime by simply loving and caring for others; many strangers became life-long friends. As a stay-at-home Mom, raising her own six children, she helped her neighbors and their kids. As an assistant to an oral surgeon, she helped patients cope with apprehension and pain by calming their fears with her gentle spirit. As a teacher, she guided and encouraged students to pursue their dreams and passions. As an I'olani Palace Docent, she made Hawai'ian history come to life for visitors and local people alike. As a cancer survivor, she cheered medical staff and patients. As a counselor in a crisis pregnancy center, she gently comforted scared mothers to be, with love, compassion and encouragement. Throughout her life and walk with Christ, her faith in God never wavered. Her positive and joyful spirit accompanied by her friendly smile, brought comfort and aloha to all around her. She was truly a blessing to all who knew her and she lived the life of a Proverbs 31 wife and mother... Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts in her ... Her children rise up and call her blessed ... Her husband also, and he praises her: "Many daughters have done well, but you exceed them all" ... Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who reveres the Lord, she shall be praised! Proverbs 31 Pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Fred, in September, 2015. She is survived by her children; Eric (Kathy), Steve (Tammy), Darrell (Barbara), Liann (Jim) Mendoza, Lehua (Manele) Neilson, and Matt (Kim); 16 Grandchildren, and 12 Great-grandchildren. She is loved and will be missed by many, many more. Services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Kaneohe Calvary Chapel (Kahalu'u; across from Hygenics Store). Fellowship at 9:30 a.m.; Service at 10:00 a.m., followed by light refreshments. Burial with family at 1:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
