Carole Claire Kanani Mauloa Campbell Paulsen passed unexpectedly on December 17, 2017. She is survived by her three sons: Kirk (Tammy), Kekoa (Melissa) and Kekai; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nieces, two grand nieces, two grand nephews and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Huihui Saunders Campbell; father, Clarence Healani Campbell; and sister, Louise Keikilani Campbell Bates. Carole was raised in Kapahulu and Kalihi-Palama, and despite availability of limited resources, earned degrees from Colorado Teacher's College and Oregon State University. Fifty-plus years as an educator began in California and continued in Hawaii, including 14 years teaching at Wahiawa Intermediate. She also served as Vice Principal at Waipahu and Waianae High schools, and was Principal at Campbell High School. She was also the first woman of Hawaiian ancestry to serve as Principal of Hana School (K-12), as well as Principal of Adult Education for the Waipahu area complex. Most recently, Carole served as temporary Vice Principal and Principal at Mililani High School. She cherished community and culture, helping establish the Ali'i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club in 1973, singing with Kamehameha Schools alumni choral classes, and serving as guardian ad litem for the state Family Court for decades. Her passion for family and friends, daily water aerobics, reading and travel was only equaled by her love of Kamehameha Schools and her beloved class of 1955. A celebration of Carole's life will be held Saturday, March 24, at Kamehameha Schools' Bishop Memorial Chapel. Visitation begins at 2 pm followed by a service at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks friends and family to consider making a donation in Carole's memory to the Pauahi Foundation, Kamehameha Schools Class of 1955 Scholarship at 567 S.
