HONOLULU, HI Myrna Mae Mattix, age 83, originally from Garrett, IL closed her eyes and passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Honolulu, HI. Myrna will be lovingly remembered by her friends, and her family, which includes her sister-in-law, Rose Mattix, nephews Jeff and Greg Mattix, great nephews Joseph (Nicole) and Matthew Mattix, great nieces Ashley, Leah and Allison Mattix, several great-great nieces, and a great- great nephew and by her special caretakers at Josie's Ohana Adult Care facility. She will be reunited in Heaven with her parents, John Robert and Redith Mattix of Garrett, IL and brother, James Richard Mattix of Decatur, IL. Myrna earned a Bachelors in Business Administration from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and an MBA from University of Hawaii. While in a program that helped blind students travel to distant destinations after MacMurray College, Myrna fell in love with the climate and Aloha spirit of the people on the island of Oahu and made the decision to move to Hawaii. Myrna moved to Honolulu in 1957 and enjoyed a successful career as a civilian in the US Navy Pacific Fleet Intelligence at Pearl Harbor until her retirement after 35 years. Myrna was a member of her local DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), a premiere member of the Bishop Museum and was affiliated with the Aiea United Methodist Church. She loved the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands and had a passion for discovering local artistic treasures which she proudly displayed in her home. She lived a peaceful life and spent quality time reading, watching TV, and enjoying the company of her feline companions. She had a special love for her family and cherished every photograph, phone call, and visit from her loved ones. Stories of Myrna's life with us will be shared by those she left behind at a Memorial Service and Burial that will be held a later date in Cartwright Cemetery outside of Tuscola, IL.
