Iwao “Jack” Motoyama
Iwao "Jack" Motoyama, 95, founder of Motoyama Distributors, community leader, volunteer and devout member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, passed away on January 22nd. Iwao graduated from Farrington High School and Meiji University, living through the tumultuous times of WWII in Japan and during its reconstruction. While working with the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces in Kure, Japan, he met Sumie "Slim" Kubota, with whom he was married for over fifty years. Iwao's community service work included multiple terms as President of the Honolulu Jigozen Jinkai and volunteering with Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin and the Young Buddhist Association of Honolulu. Iwao is survived by son Calvin, daughter-in-law Sharon, and daughters Catherine and Annette Motoyama, son-in-law Kelvin Chow and grandchildren Kayla, Luke, Connor, and Kaitlyn. His brothers are Charles, Franklin, Leslie, and his sister, Lily Urabe. He will be lovingly missed. Private services were held in his honor. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
