Elizabeth M. Foster
Passed away unexpectedly on the evening of February 20th in Honolulu, Hawaii surrounded by family at the age of 75. Liz as she was later known, grew up in the small town of Harmony Minnesota. She spent her childhood surrounded by a large loving family, amidst the rolling midwestern fields, dusty gravel roads, and company of cows on her uncle's dairy farm. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota, Liz taught at University High School in Minneapolis and at Minnetonka High School in Excelsior Minnesota. In 1974 Liz relocated with her husband and young son to Honolulu, Hawaii where she taught English and Writing at Punahou School. She knew words and thoughts had power; and central to her philosophy that inspired thousands of students over her nearly forty years, was that their voices and were important, illuminating and inspiring as well. Her light humor, and easy small town eloquence made Liz an adored teacher, colleague and mentor. Elizabeth was the oldest of five siblings and is survived and dearly missed by her two sisters, two brothers, and her son. Liz's celebration of life is open to all, and will be held April 28th at Thurston Chapel on Punahou campus. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by her celebration at 2:00 PM, with refreshments following. No flowers please, just come and celebrate with us!
