Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on March 14, 2018 at the age of 85. Raymond was born in Hilo, Hawaii on January 17, 1933. He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and his PhD from Northwestern University, and was a Professor of Sociology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rachel Sakumoto; son, Randall (Karol) Sakumoto; daughter, Roslyn (Daven) Chun; grandsons, Korey Chun, Colby Sakumoto, and Robb Chun; sister, Masayo Nagao; numerous nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and nieces, and great-grand-nephews and nieces.
