Lourdes Samonte Malig, passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 in Honolulu. She was born to Francisco and Letitia Samonte on October 26, 1935, in Cavite, Philippines, and was the oldest of six children. A maternal spirit, she had the ability to make you feel loved whether she knew you for a lifetime or just a few hours. She loved bringing friends and family together, hosting memorable gatherings with tables full of homemade lumpia, pancit, and bibingka. She also loved dancing, reading, and listening to music. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Ruben. They raised two children, living in the Philippines, Michigan, and Illinois, before settling in Mililani, where Lourdes worked as a store manager for the Schofield Main Exchange and Shoppette. Life after retirement involved traveling with Ruben to Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy, Australia, Turkey, Belgium, and New Zealand (her favorite). She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up, attending their communions, graduations, and show performances in California. She is survived by her husband Ruben R. Malig; daughter Leilani Malig; son Ruben S. (Leinani) Malig; brothers Cesar (Teresita) Samonte, Francisco (Angelita) Samonte and Danilo Samonte; sisters Elisa (Santiago) Mercado and Rosario Alonso; sisters-in-law Hannah (James) Miyachi and Louise Peardon; grandchildren Emily and Zachary Malig and many nieces and nephews.
