FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Margaret Y. Oda
Margaret Y. OdaBorn on March 26, 1925, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 15, 2018. Predeceased by her husband, Glenn Katsuya Oda; parents, Satoru and Satoyo Kurisu; and siblings, Hatsuko (Tanaka), Haruko Alice (Yoshina), Elaine (Kono), Albert, Harold, and George. Survived by daughter, Marjorie Oda-Burns, grand-daughter, Theresa Oda-Burns; numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces. She was a noted educator and philanthropist. She spent her professional career in various capacities in the Hawaii State Department of Education and was named "Mother of Middle Schools." She served, at various times, as director or trustee of the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation; Honolulu Museum of Art; Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin; Japan-America Society of Hawaii; Japanese American National Museum; National Japanese Memorial Foundation; Omote Senke Domonkai Hawaii; Pacific Buddhist Academy and the USS Missouri Memorial Association. A memorial service will be held at the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii on May 26, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of koden, please make a donation in her memory to any of the following organizations of your choice: Hilo High School Foundation; Honolulu Museum of Art; Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii; Kuakini Foundation; Manoa Heritage Center or Pacific Buddhist Academy.
