FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

MARY ELIZABETH GLADDING BACON
MARY ELIZABETH GLADDING BACONMary Elizabeth Gladding, 73, only daughter of Honolulu Osteopathic Physicians Frank. O. Gladding (deceased) and Elizabeth R. Gladding (deceased), passed away peacefully on May 4 after a long illness, surrounded by a circle of loving family and friends. She was married to Jerome K. Bacon, her soulmate, and they had fifty years of travel, motorcycle touring, singing and dancing together and, especially raising their daughter Kristin. Born and raised in Honolulu, and longtime resident of Manoa valley, she attended Hanahauoli and Punahou Schools, graduating class of '63. She graduated from Beaver College in Pennsylvania with a BA in Sociology. Passionate about snorkeling, Mary was a lifelong member of the Outrigger Canoe Club. Her beautiful soprano voice uplifted the Punahou Alumnae Glee Club and she was known to be inspired to spontaneously and frequently sing. She volunteered with the Lyon Arboretum and Hawaii Humane Society, and was a Board Member of the Eye of the Pacific. She was a licensed massage therapist. Mary was endlessly creative, thoughtful, and generous. Mary's friendly personality radiated enthusiastic joy, fun, and love so she made friends with all whom she met. She valued the earth, animals, and plants, saw beauty in all of nature, and had a powerful green thumb. She practiced many care of the earth techniques long before recycling, composting and "repurpose-ing" were popular. Survived by husband, Jerome, daughter Kristin, and daughter-in- law Siobhan. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 2, 2018 at Unity Church of Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Hawaiian Humane Society would be gratefully accepted. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
