SYDNEY T. FUJITA, M.D.
Sydney T. Fujita was born in a plantation house in Kealia, Kauai in 1922. In 1941 he attended Redlands College in California, only to be displaced to a Japanese American relocation camp in Poston, Arizona. Through the efforts of Reverend Ivan Bell and wife Olga he was released to continue his college education at Denison University in Ohio where he graduated magna cum laude in 2.5 years. Without any interview requests, he showed up at Temple University in Philadelphia, met and impressed the director of admissions and was admitted into medical school. He completed his training in OB/GYN at Tripler Army Medical Center and served a 1 year internship in Chicago only to be drafted during the Korean War and served as a captain at Tripler Army Medical Center. He practiced over 40 years and brought thousands of babies into the world. He was full of life, warmth and friendship and will be greatly missed by his family and many patients. Dr. Fujita is survived by his wife, Helen, daughters Gail (David) and Jan (Keith), and son Jon (Brenda), and grandchildren Aaron Karlen (Amanda), Naomi Karlen (Darin Lim Yankowitz), Jennifer Allen-Fujita (Lance), Michael Fujita, Jason Fujita, Troy Okazaki, and Ty Okazaki.
