Bernard E. Sweeney, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on May 10, 2018 at the age of 87, surrounded by his family. Bernard joined his beautiful wife, Haruyo, at the pearly gates just as he had always wished for. He was born in Winooski, Vermont, on June 10, 1930. He always said his life truly began 22 years later when he met and married his beautiful wife Hauryo. Together they would spend 64 years on a magical life journey that included having three children and two beautiful grandchildren. Bernard spent 30 years proudly serving in the Air Force. He considered it one of his proudest achievements and felt honored and privileged to have served his country. He is survived by a son, Jimmy (Christine); daughters Patty (Bill) Mathews, Monica (Allen) Hirai; and two grandchildren Christen Hirai and Brett Mathews. Our Dad was a true, happy go lucky Irishman, who with a twinkle in his eye, always had a smile and kind word for anyone he met. He will be deeply missed. We are profoundly grateful to Queen's Geriatrics and an amazing staff at Manoa Senior Care that provided our Dad with compassionate and loving care. Dad spent the last four years surrounded not only by the love of his family, but the love of the staff and residents at Manoa Senior Care, Huapala B House. In keeping with his wishes, a private service will be held at Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetary. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
