FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Donald Alfred Andrews
Donald Alfred AndrewsLieutenant Colonel Donald Alfred Andrews (retired), born April 16, 1926, died July 31, 2018 at Tripler Army Medical Center. Don grew up in Staten Island, NY and was the youngest of four children born to Mary and William Andrews. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, their three sons and one daughter, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Donald was inducted into the U.S. Army toward the end of WWII, receiving multiple awards and serving honorably during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring from military service, he found his second career as a tennis director for the City and County of Honolulu, where he was a familiar face and friend to many. From the outset, Donald was driven by the desire to promote greater access to tennis throughout O'ahu. His tenacity led to an unprecedented tennis boom; and national recognition for his home site, Diamond Head Tennis Center, as one of the nation's top municipal courts. "We will miss you. Thank you for the joy and impact you made; and the life you brought to your many years." A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 20, 2018 at the Honolulu Elks Lodge 616 with a Military Honors Service to be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Donald Andrews Scholarship Fund at Kahiau: A Tennis Foundation, 1288 Ala Moana Boulevard, Suite 288, Honolulu, HI. 96814.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
