Our Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle, died on June 11, 2018. Alfred was born on Oahu in 1933. He spent his first 28 years between Oahu and Hawaii. In 1962, he married Shirley A. Pereira. They married in California and had a full in the ground imu, Luau. They spent their honeymoon driving across the USA; it was Alfred's first trip to the "Mainland". The newlyweds returned to Oahu via the USS Matsonia, another first for him. The couple eventually made their home on Waikalua Rd. in Kaneohe. He was a mechanic for most of his life, which included working at Pac Marine on Oahu and later for Starkist tuna in San Pedro, Ca. Of note, in 1965 he and a partner owned and opened the first slot car racing establisment "Lil' Indy", on the Windward side of Oahu. They had their son in 1964, and finally relocated to Orange County in 1967. Their daughter was born that same year and the family finally settled in Garden Grove CA. They were married for 56 years and lived for the last 50 all in Garden Grove. Alfred is survived by his wife Shirley, children Keith and Karen and three granddaughters. Shirley is a 1953 graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy (SHA-Kaimuki); a 1957 graduate of Incarnate Word College, San Antonio, TX and is now a retired RN, BS; Their son, Keith, is a retired Police Sgt. and currently a USCG reservist. Keith has been deployed 4 times since 9/11. Keith's wife Dawn is a teacher and they have a daughter Julie Kailanaaloha. Daughter Karen is an Associate Professor and the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Grossmont College. Karen's daughters, Katie Ann Kaleialoha and Kennedy Rae Kauilani are entering high school and seventh grade respectively. His neices and nephews total 78, and the family is still growing. Some of these Ohana have 5 generations sharing it all! Alfred, Al, Sonny, "Doc", Dad, Papa and Uncle will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him. As he always said ... "A Hui Hou"
