April 27, 1944 - July 10, 2018 Chick Alsop of Hawaii Kai and Papaaloa, a fighter pilot, an athlete, and a photographer, passed away at the age of 74. His parents Carroll and Ann Alsop of Oskaloosa and Nisswa, MN predeceased him. Chick is survived by his partner, Debbie Chock of Kailua, sisters Jane (Carroll) Comstock of Virginia, Ann Marie "Reedy" (Doug) Rod of Idaho, a niece, nephews, aunt and cousins. He also had many dear and loyal friends throughout the world. Chick loved track and the high jump, and chose Southern Methodist University specifically to run track. After college he joined the Navy where he flew F-4 Phantoms, leaving as a lieutenant. He then moved to Honolulu in the early 1970's and was a pilot with Aloha Airlines for over 30 years. After retiring from Aloha in 2004, Chick devoted his time to his passions of photography and travel. He would spend months at a time trekking in Tibet, Pakistan, China, India, Nepal, and Mongolia, teaching school and volunteering while he took photographs. His photography was exhibited in galleries and art shows throughout Honolulu. Chick was also a talented speaker and writer, giving talks to groups and writing travel articles for the Honolulu Advertiser and working on publishing his book. Chick spent his life looking for the next physical challenge and adventure, from marathons, triathlons, skiing, climbing mountains, cycling, and sailing. Some of his favorite moments were sailing on his boat Born Free with his crew to neighbor islands and in Friday night races. Another favorite moment was covered by the Advertiser, when he and his crew caught a record 1051 pound marlin from his old sampan, the Lae Lae. Chick appreciated literature and one of his favorite quotes captures the way he lived his life: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow!
