FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Edward Hoy Chan Lau
Edward Hoy Chan LauPassed away peacefully on the morning of June 30, 2018. He lived a long and productive life of 97 years. Throughout his life Ed was a loving husband, father, grand- father and hard-working provider. He hauled wood, herded cattle and picked fruit during his youth to help his parents on their ranch and at their Koolau Store, worked as an electrician at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and Pearl Harbor Shipyard, managed Lau's Chevron in Kahaluu, worked as an electrician for Spencecliff restaurants, and finally became the engineering supervisor at the Ala Moana Hotel. In his later years, Ed was in his element in the "country" where he loved to grow flowers, fruits and vegetables on his farm in Kahaluu. Armed with only a high school education and his strong work ethic, Ed provided a very comfortable life for his family. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Won Lau. He is survived by his four children, Colleen (Robin) Wilson, LaVonne (John) Vashon, Harvey (Diana) Lau and Harvalee (Whitney) Limm; as well as his seven grandchildren, Aaron and Leslie Wilson; Lorraine and Jack Lau; and Blair, Codi and Drew Limm. Ed is also survived by Thomma Saopeng, Ed's friend and companion for the last fifteen years of his life. A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau, 45-550 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe, HI on Friday, August 24, 2018. Visitation: 9:30 a.m.; Celebration: 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations in Ed's memory can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu or The Queen's Medical Center.
