Erich Josef Buder
Of Honolulu, passed away on July 18, 2018 at St. Francis Hospice. He was born on September 3, 1949 in southern Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, and sister Ursula Goodwin. He was the youngest child following brother, Erwin and sisters, Gudrun and Ursula. Erich excelled in soccer and gymnastics in his youth. He was married to Janice Sumitani of Hilo for 45 years before she passed away in 2015. In 1985, he opened his own auto repair shop specializing in Mercedes-Benz called Erich's Eurocars and remained open until his illness overcame him in 2018. Erich played soccer for Soccer Club Hawaii, Team Hawaii, Meadow Gold Express and with various teams until his late 40's. He coached many teams including the Leahi women's teams with travels to Portland, Las Vegas, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Following his soccer career, he enjoyed playing golf with his 100 North and Elks Golf Club buddies. He is survived by his son, Jacky Buder, daughter Erika (Wayde) Buder-Nakasone, sister Gudrun Allgaier, and four grandchildren, Treyden, Chelsea, Logan and Payton. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Kaiser Moanalua and St. Francis Hospice, his employees, loyal customers, friends and family for being there for Erich all these years. Erich's celebration of life will be held at Punahou School Chapel on Saturday, August 25. Visitation 2:00 pm, Service 3:00 pm. No flowers. Casual attire.
