SPEED FRY SHEA
Age 87, (ret. Col, USMC), died peacefully, Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home, Solana at the Park Assisted Living, in Surprise AZ. Both daughters, Linda H Shea and Cheryl A Miller were in attendance. Speed is survived by a sister, Patricia Work resides in CA, daughters. Linda Shea in HI and Cheryl Miller in CA. He leaves behind four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Speed was a native of New York, NY, born March 27, 1931. He attended UCLA in 1948 and joined the Marine Corps in 1951. Speed attended flight school in both FL and TX. Once commissioned, he remained in active duty until retirement in 1985. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Business Administration in 1969 from Syracuse University in New York. He was promoted to Colonel while attending Air War College in Montgomery, AL in 1975. Col Shea served two tours in Vietnam. He earned multiple honors and citations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross in combat, the Air Medal with numeral 38 and the honorable Legion of Merit, along with others not mentioned. After 35 years of military service, Speed worked as Production Manager for North American Rockwell in Palmdale, CA, on the B1B Bomber production. Speed loved to travel, spoke multiple languages, and enjoyed time with family and friends. He was a loyal Marine, beloved husband and father. He will be remembered fondly. Col Shea will be interred with Military Honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), in Honolulu, Hawaii. Memorials will be announced.
