Age 83, of Kailua passed away peacefully on August 12, 2018. Born April 7, 1935 in Waipahu, Oahu to parents Nicanor and Jovita (Edu) Rodillas. Nilda was the second eldest child born into a family of eleven siblings; six brothers and five sisters ! Preceded in death by her husband Jerry Chock. Nilda is lovingly survived by her daughter Debra Chock, grandson Aaron van Bokhoven and granddaughter Alicia van Bokhoven. She is also survived by three sisters, four brothers and many nieces and nephews. Nilda graduated from Waipahu High School and she began her career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1965 and retired after 31 years. It was during those years that she became involved with the Human Relations Committee, processing grievances within the Pacific Area. Nilda furthered her education at the George Meany Center and the University of Oregon for Arbitration and Labor Law. While still employed with the U.S. Postal service, Nilda was appointed and elected as the "First Woman" in the history of the American Postal Workers Union to become a National Business Agent, Pacific Area. She respectfully earned the title as Hawaii's "First Lady" as her milestones were unparalleled in labor circles. Nilda had many firsts, "First" women letter carrier in the state of Hawaii, "First" women president for the local union APWU in Hawaii, "First" women president for the Hawaii APWU state organization. Her leadership and "can do" attitude, helped pave the way for women in the labor workforce. A true Pioneer! Nilda served three decades with the APWU before retiring. Nilda had many interests and passions. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and was very active and involved with community service and human relations. It was about giving back and helping others, first her family, friends, community and her APWU members. Nilda will always be admired for many accomplishments and always affectionately remembered as our "First Lady". A Celebration of Life honoring Nilda, will be held at Borthwick Mortuary, Makai Chapel on Thursday September 27, 2018. Visitation: 9:00 a.m.; Service: 10:00 a.m. Lunch to follow.
