51, passed away on August 31, 2018 in San Mateo, California. Born in Honolulu and raised in Mililani, Carey spent the past year battling leukemia (AML). He was a graduate of Damien Memorial High School, class of 1985 and received his teaching credentials at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. A committed educator and coach, Carey devoted his life to the students and athletes at the YMCA and various schools on Oahu. These included St. Francis High School, Damien Memorial, Kamehameha Schools, Sacred Hearts Academy and most recently, Assets School in Honolulu. Carey is survived by his parents, Calvin and Carol Joy Won, his sister Colette (Sid) Shimabuku of Belmont, CA, nephew Brad Shimabuku and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 7 at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Visitation @ 10:00AM, services at 11:00AM. Casual attire. No flowers.
