John Fernandez Serrao, Sr.
John Fernandez Serrao Sr., 84, passed away at his residence on October 1, 2018. Born in Kaka'ako on May 14, 1934, was a graduate of Farrington High School, Class of 1952. John retired after 26 years of service with the Honolulu Police Department, soon after with his late wife Althea started Poakalani Hawaiian Quilt Designs. John is recognized as a world renowned Master Hawaiian Quilt Designer who authored several Hawaiian Quilt pattern books. Both John and his wife were instrumental for revival of the art of Hawaiian Quilting during the 1970's Hawaiian Renaissance. He is survived by sons; Joseph Serrao and John Serrao Jr of Las Vegas, Daughters; Raelene (Aaron) Correia, Cissy Serrao, grand- daughters; Aalene Correia, Thea Correia, Sister, Josephine (David) Huddy. Services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Oahu Cemetery Chapel. Visitation 9:00 - 10:15, Services 10:30 burial to follow. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
