Henry Hideo “Flash” Nakagawa
Henry Hideo 93, of Honolulu passed away on September 23, 2018. Henry was born on January 2, 1925 in Honolulu. He was a retired Chief of Land Division for the City and County of Honolulu. Graduate of McKinley High School. Volunteered for the US Army in his senior year of high school and was a veteran of the 442nd Regiment, 100th Battalion. 1950 graduate of the University of Hawaii with a BS in Engineering. Proudly obtained his professional licenses in engineering and surveying. Worked for the City & County of Honolulu, Department of Public Works starting as a Civil Engineer I and eventually became the Chief Control Engineer in the Division of Engineering. Became Chief of the Land Division in 1975 before retiring in 1980. In retirement, Henry was an instructor of surveying and math at Honolulu Community College. Henry enjoyed golfing on weekends, coached his sons in Little League baseball, enjoyed UH baseball and football, and upon retirement took up running and ran the Honolulu Marathon three times as well as running in various other race events in Honolulu. Henry also enjoyed travelling to visit his children and grandchildren on the Mainland. Henry was predeceased by his wife, Hilda T. and his daughter, Janice S. Korff. He is survived by children, Brian T. (Kathleen), Bert H., Ann and son-in-law, Robert (Cathy) Korff. He is also survived by grandchildren -Tyson (Julia), Britton (Eric) Nastro, Kirstin, Benjamin (Megan) Korff, Tara Korff, Kimberly Korff and great-grandchildren - Mila, Aiden and Brandon Nakagawa, Ethan and Zachary Nastro, and Kade Korff.
