FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

George Gonsalves
George Gonsalves83 of Kailua, Hawaii, a retired Army LTC Colonel with 27-years of active duty service, combat veteran, and assistant professor of social science and criminal justice, passed away on October 13, 2018. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 10, 1935, to parents George Gonsalves Sr. and Mary Alves. He was one of five children: his two brothers and two sisters are still living. He held numerous college degrees; and as an assistant professor and educator, he taught at West Point The United States Military Academy, University of Southern California, University of Maryland, Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University, and other colleges. He was the Dean of Students at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, for a time in the 1980s. He was a voting member of the Kailua Neighborhood Board. George leaves behind Kim, his wife of 62 years; two daughters: Andrea M. Rosenstein, and Terese M. Atallah; son Stephen G. Gonsalves; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at St. John Vienney Catholic Church on November 8, 2018. He will be buried next to his daughter, Sabrina M. Gonsalves, in the Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific with a Military Honor Guard on November 9, 2018.
